Welcome to Westbourne Academy
A Message from the Principal
A very warm welcome to our website at Westbourne Academy.
Our aim is to provide a good quality of education for all our students and to prepare them well for life as young adults.
We are a calm academy, where there is a purposeful learning environment. A place where achievement is celebrated and where there are high expectations in terms of behaviour, attendance and uniform. We were delighted when Ofsted (2016) confirmed that: "Pupils’ behaviour is good. Most pupils value their education, behave appropriately, and are keen to learn. Pupils are polite, respectful and helpful to adults and each other."
Our motto is: ‘Aspire Achieve Advance’ and we are determined to work alongside our students, parents/carers, staff, governors and our academy sponsor to ensure that all our young people are given every opportunity to succeed. We are an academy that places learning at the centre of all that we do and we were are glad that Ofsted: "saw clear evidence of improved practice among a growing number of teachers and departments." They commented further that: "A far higher proportion of pupils, significantly above the national average, now move on to employment or higher education."
Through our curriculum, extracurricular opportunities, the pastoral system and the ethos of the school, we aim to ensure our students will be happy and successful. We pride ourselves on strong and caring support for our students and we were pleased that Ofsted felt that we have placed a significant investment: "in a pastoral system that supports the personal development and welfare needs of pupils well."
I look forward to welcoming you to Westbourne Academy.
Please watch the video below to get a sense of our ambition. As we continue on our journey to become an good academy, we are actively involving our students, parents/carers, staff, governors and our academy sponsor to ensure that they can be a part of our aspiration to be the best. We will also work closely with our community, sharing our facilities and working with our local partners for the benefit of the community that exists beyond the academy gates.
